Project description: New kitchen.
Type of home: Re-built home destroyed by Cedar fire.

Clients' needs:
1. They like the European country look.
2. They wanted the cabinets to look more like an assembly of different pieces
of furniture rather than a standard kitchen.
3. They wanted a raised seating area.
4. Lots of detail.
5. Unique
The Plan:
Using the needs spelled out above and some pictures the clients had, I put
together a design that would allow proper work flow, integrate all of the
appliances they required and give the furniture look by utilizing differing
cabinet heights and depths and liberal use of moldings.
Alder was the material of choice for the cabinets. It takes a stain very
well, and we wanted to be able to distress and age the wood a little, stain and
then add a dark glaze to the detailed areas for emphasis. The door style we
selected was a square paneled door with an applied molding and a beaded outside
edge detail to reflect the beaded panels used in the hutch and the back of the
island.
The Design:
The floor plan from the blue prints was my starting point:

From my notes and dimensions, I came up with this design:

I gave the clients a sheet with pictures of the moldings, doors and
accessories:

Progress:
Kitchen cabinets and granite tops are installed.

There
are still some missing doors and some trim to install. We are also working on
cabinets for the laundry room, master bath and bedroom and an upstairs bath
linen. Plans and photos to follow...
Kitchen is complete!
